摘要
We find that perception of asymmetry determines polarization for calculated backscattering of circularly polarized waves from a family of symmetric and asymmetric variations of the planar loop. When along an axis of N-fold rotational symmetry with N>2, backscatter is cross-polarized. From an inherently asymmetric structure, a two-fold symmetric one, or off-axis of a symmetric one, backscatter is both co- and cross-polarized. Examination of the induced electric dipole and its electric field provides a physical explanation for perception of asymmetry in backscattering polarization.
