Abstract
Blends of polychloroprene (CR) with acrylonitrile (AN)-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) or AN-ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer (EPDM)-styrene copolymer (AES) were prepared by casting from tetrahydrofuran (TH F). The contents of CR in the blends ranged from 10 to 40 wt%. Three kinds of CR with different molecular weights were used. The effects of the blended CR were investigated for thermal stability, light resistance, storage modulus and flammability of ABS or AES. As the content and molecular weight of CR were increased, the thermal stability, storage modulus and flame retardancy of ABS or AES increased but light resistance decreased. Morphological studies were also performed on the blends. It was found that the blended CR showed different effects on the properties of ABS and AES. CR showed better compatibility with ABS than with AES at the same blend compositions.
