Abstract A model assuming infinite coalescence and break-up rates was used to analyze state observability of chemically reacting liquid—liquid agitated dispersions with simultaneous heat and mass transfer in continuous reactors. The analysis shows that on-line information concerning changes in drop size is sometimes important for the estimation of variables which it is important to control but which are difficult to measure.
