Two-stage subarray level weighting approach for phased array

The two-stage subarray level weighting approach of phased array radar is investigated. The fist stage weighting is used to suppress sidelobe of difference pattern and it reduces hardware cost and complexity compared with the Bayliss weighting. The second stage weighting is used to realize adaptation of the sum and difference beam. The approach based on modified steering vector is proposed. It suppresses sidelobe of adaptive patterns effectively and can be easily realized. The combined approach of modified steering vector and optimum beamformer is presented,which improves the flexibility of sidelobe suppression. It can suppress sidelobe effectively,meanwhile preserve output SINR quite approximating to that of optimum beamformer. Simulation results demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach.
