Diamond-like carbon films (DLC) were formed by r.f. plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition. The tribological performances of DLC film deposited on commercially pure Ti and ELI Ti-6AI-4V were evaluated in both atmosphere and physiological saline solution. The DLC coating improved the wear properties of Ti and Ti-6AI-4V in both environments, but showed the dependence on substrate and environment.
