Abstract
Acepromazine, a phenothiazine tranquilizer, causes hypotension in standing horses ( Parry et al., 1982 Parry BW Anderson GA Gay CC Hypotension in the horse induced by acepromazine maleate. Aust Vet J. 1982; 59: 148-152 Crossref PubMed Scopus (48) Google Scholar ). However, a retrospective study ( Taylor and Young, 1993 Taylor PM Young SS Does the induction agent affect the course of halothane anaesthesia in horses?. J Vet Anaes. 1993; 20: 84-91 Crossref Scopus (10) Google Scholar ) showed that acepromazine pre-anesthetic medication did not affect arterial blood pressure (MAP) in anaesthetized horses. This study examined the effects of acepromazine on MAP during romifidine-ketamine-halothane anaesthesia in horses anaesthetized for various surgical procedures.
