Session XII Musical Sound Research in Vienna: an Interdisciplinary Approach
msra
摘要
The specific concept of the Viennese Comparative Musicology has been developed for more than 100 years. The approach includes two steps: (1) the exploration of the physical, physiological and psychological basis of music as well as (2) the social and cultural framework of music phenomena. Richard Wallaschek (1860-1917) founded this interdisciplinary approach in 1896, which has been continued and elaborated in detail by Robert Lach (1874-1958b), Wallascheks successor at the chair of Comparative Musicology at the University of Vienna. Both researchers were closely tied to the theory of evolution, the dominant view at that time.
