Weak affinity for CO of platinum group metal nanoparticles supported on partially reduced iron oxides
Journal of Nanoparticle Research(2013)
摘要
The metal–support interaction in the partially reduced Pt/α-Fe 2 O 3 , Ir/γ-Fe 2 O 3 , Rh/γ-Fe 2 O 3 , and Ru/γ-Fe 2 O 3 catalysts was investigated by IR-CO probe and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The vibration bands of CO adsorbed on these noble metal particles could not be observed after these catalysts were treated with H 2 at 373 K. XPS and X-ray diffraction measurements revealed that the reduction of Pt/α-Fe 2 O 3 in H 2 produced surface oxygen vacancies in the α-Fe 2 O 3 support’s surface, whereas did not change its bulk structure. These results revealed the universal significance to some extent of a rule that the interaction between the nanoparticles of platinum group metals and the surface oxygen vacancies of iron oxide extremely weakens the affinity for CO of the metal nanoparticles in these supported catalysts, which is helpful for understanding the catalytic properties over these catalysts.
