Prediction of flow-induced vibration in a large double-suction centrifugal pump impeller

This paper reports on a flow-induced vibration simulation in a large double suction centrifugal pump impeller at three flow conditions by using FEM code. The pressure pulsation obtained from flow simulation using CFD code was set as the force boundary condition. The results show that the maximum vibration displacement of impeller appeared at out edge region of shroud. The vibration characteristics in three zones (exit edge of shroud, blade trailing edge and leading edge) were investigated in time domain and frequency domain. And it is found that the fundamental frequency of vibration velocity is 6.10 Hz, which is nearly equal to the rotating frequency (6.25 Hz). The higher frequencies are harmonics of the fundamental frequency.
