Abstract
Summary form only given. A prototype parallel-plate electromagnetic calorimeter using high-pressure gas as the ionization medium has been tested. Data were taken in a pressure range of 20 to 100 atm and in an energy range 20 to 125 GeV. Results on the calorimeter response as a function of electric field, gas pressure, and beam energy have been obtained for Ar, Xe gases and gas mixtures of Ar-methane and Xe-methane. Results from radiation damage studies and an R&D effort to develop a calorimeter based on high-pressure gas ionization tubes are also considered
