•Multiple family conflict and somatic symptom trajectory subgroups were identified, and their subgroup memberships covary.•Stable low family conflict status corresponded to stable low somatic symptom status, and vice versa.•Worsening family conflict status corresponded to stable moderate somatic symptom status, and vice versa.•Improving family conflict status corresponded to stable low or improving somatic symptom status, and vice versa.
