•A fusion of hand kinematics and kinetics during gripping on a cylinder is proposed.•The pressure film is kinematically calibrated in the laboratory volume.•Segments of a 6DOF hand model are projected onto the pressure film to create ROIs.•Forces and COP locations are calculated for use in inverse dynamics analyses of gripping.
