Observations on the peristome and systematic position of Tetrastichium fontanum (Musci)

AbstractThe peristome of the monotypic hookeriaceous genus Tetrastichium is described from a specimen of T. fontanum from La Palma (Canary Is.). The peristome is similar to that of two other members of the family, Rhynchostegiopsis and Leucomium. The precise systematic position of the species is discussed and it is maintained, pending further evaluation of the structure of the peristome, near Hookeria.
