Evaluation of the gingival inflammation in pregnancy and postpartum via 25-hydroxy-vitamin D3, prostaglandin E 2 and TNF-α levels in saliva

•Salivary levels of cytokines might be different in pregnancy and postpartum.•Also, cytokines were evaluated according to periodontal health status of women.•Control group was created for determination the effect of hormones on salivary cytokines.•Pregnancy has an effect on salivary parameters related with the periodontal diseases.•Hormonal changes in the presence of periodontal disease exacerbate cytokines in saliva.
