Design of reflective chromatic polarizers at 45° incidence

We propose a reflective chromatic polarizer based on one dimensional metal–dielectric–metal grating structure, which can present a great feature of efficient color filtering for TE polarization and blocking feature for TM polarization at 45° incidence. Three primary chromatic polarizers (cyan, magenta, yellow) with excellent performance are obtained. The effect of the geometrical parameters on the polarizing property and chromatic character is fully analyzed. A convenient and fast approach is provided to achieve color tuning for chromatic polarizers by simply varying the thickness of the intermediate dielectric layer. Moreover, the chromatic polarizer can keep the optical property up to 10° of the azimuth angle. The Fabry–Pérot resonance and the similar effect of the wire grid polarizer account for the spectral filtering feature and the polarizing feature of the chromatic polarizer.
