APPLICATIONS – TRANSPORTATION | Aviation: Fuel Cells

Fuel cell power plants for aircraft are an enabling technology for various new missions. In aviation applications, fuel cell power plants can provide improved performance and environmental compatibility relative to conventional technologies. At present, small-scale long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicles are the primary aviation application for fuel cell power plants. This article presents design requirements, proposed applications, and some commercialization considerations for aviation fuel cell systems.
