Volatile Constituents of the Essential Oil of Pluchea fastigiata Griseb.

ABSTRACT The essential oil of Pluchea fastigiata Griseb. was analyzed by a combination of GC/MS. The oil was found to contain 39 constituents of which 22 were identified. The major compounds were β-pinene (15–19%), sabinene (7–10%) and a variety of sesquiterpenes such as β-caryophyllene (15–17%), δ-cadinene (3–7%), α-muurolene (2.0–2.3%). Oxygenated compounds such as caryophyllene oxide (4–7%) and two unidentified sesquiterpenoid compounds with a similar mass spectrum in rather high concentration (3–7%) were also present.
