Vascular endothelial growth factor gene polymorphisms and association with age related macular degeneration in Indian patients.

•Heterozygous genotypes of VEGF -1154 G>A, +460 C>T, and +405 G>C have shown risk association with AMD.•VEGF -2578 C>A did not reveal any association with AMD.•A-A-G-T haplotype possessing three mutant alleles showed risk with AMD.•Independent additive effects of mutant alleles at -1154 G>A & +460 C>T have been observed.•Results of our study for VEGF +405G>C are consistent with previously reported Indian studies.
