Model-based analysis of stirred cooling crystallizer of high aspect ratio crystals with linear and nonlinear breakage

•2D population balance model for high aspect ratio crystals with breakage is discussed.•Crystal-crystal nonlinear and crystal-impeller and −wall linear breakage are modelled.•The system of equations for 2D mixed moments is solved by the 2D QMOM-ODE method.•The secondary nucleation, crystal growth and breakage are interconnected by CSD.•Linear and nonlinear breakage processes are important factors in crystals formation.
