Scheduling Acyclic Traffic In Cyclic And Deterministic Communication Systems

Wireless and wired industrial communication systems often utilize deterministic, centrally coordinated communication concepts to ensure fast and reliable transmission of time-critical real-time data, for example for closed-loop control applications. In addition to such cyclic, real-time-critical traffic, often acyclic, non-real-time data has to be exchanged between the communication devices, for example for live software updates. This acyclic traffic has usually less strict latency requirements than its cyclic counterpart, but at the same time it exhibits also a less predictable behavior. In this paper, we develop and discuss different concepts for scheduling stochastic, acyclic data in centrally coordinated communication systems primarily optimized for cyclic traffic.
