Outdoor soiling microscope for measuring particle deposition and resuspension

•An “outdoor soiling microscope” was developed to measure dust deposits, outdoors, in real time.•It could count and size particles larger than 10μm2, both deposited and resuspended.•The device also revealed formation and evolution of micron-scale condensation droplets.•The finer measurements improved correlation of soiling rate to weather parameters.
