Clinical observation on treatment of diabetic nephropathy by tangweikang capsule

Objective To observe the effect of Tangweikang Capsule, (TWK) on diabetic nephropathy (DN). Methods The 119 DN patients were divided into two groups: the group of TWK treatment (n=78) and group of captopril (n=41) as the control, the dose of which was 50 mg/d. The treatment lasted for 12 weeks. The changes of symptom score, urinary microprotein series, blood glucose, renal function, etc. were observed. Results The total effective rate of the TWK group was 84.62% ; and that of the control group. was 70.73% , there was significant difference between the two groups ( P <0.05). TWK treatment reduced the levels of blood glucose, blood lipid, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, albumin, β -microglobulin and Tamm-Horsfall protein ( P <0.05, P <0.01) in DN patients. The levels of triglyceride, angiotensin I , angiotensin II, atrial natriuretic polypeptide, prostaglandins, endothelin, type IV collagen and total cholesterol decreased and the level of high density lipoprotein-cholesterol increased in the serum of TWK-treated DN patients ( P <0.05, P <0.01). Conclusion TWK exerted obviously ameliorating effect on renal function in DN patients.
