摘要

•This study investigated hepatitis E prevalence in a cohort of Brazilian kidney transplant recipients (KTR).•A low prevalence of past hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection was observed.•HEV may be responsible for sporadic cases of recent or acute infection.•No evidence of active or chronic HEV infection was found, despite treatment with tacrolimus.•This study suggests that HEV screening is not necessary for KTR in Central Brazil.
