•We modified polyethylene surfaces by combination of natural products.•High inhibition of Staphylococcus epidermidis adhesion was reached (99.8%).•The number of activated carboxylic acid of HA changes the density of the HA layer.•Opposite activity was observed after nisin immobilization depending on HA layer.
