The level of circulating fibroblast activation protein correlates with incorporation of alpha-2-antiplasmin into the fibrin clot.

•Circulating fibroblast activation protein (cFAP) converts native Met-α2AP into Asn-α2AP.•In purified systems Asn-α2AP is faster incorporated into fibrin than Met-α2AP.•We employed a physiological plasma-based α2AP incorporation assay.•cFAP level in plasma correlated positively with α2AP incorporation.
