Effectiveness of influenza vaccination for children in Japan: Four-year observational study using a large-scale claims database

•Influenza vaccine prevented the onset of influenza from 2010 to 2014 in Japan.•Influenza vaccine also reduced the risk of influenza complications such as pneumonia.•Vaccine effectiveness was better in younger children than in older children.
