摘要

•Mutant selection window (MSW) of trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (SXT) against S. aureus clinical isolates was determined.•The detection rate of small colony variants (SCVs) was 80% (32/40).•All SCVs within the MSW were resistant to SXT.•A screening method for SXT-resistant S. aureus was developed.•The sensitivity and specificity of the screening method was 100% and 88.9%, respectively.
