Antimicrobial susceptibility, microbiological and epidemiologic characteristics of hypermucoviscous Klebsiella pneumoniae strains in a tertiary hospital at Hangzhou in China.

•Carbapenem-resistant hypermucoviscous Klebsiella pneumoniae (CR-HMKP) ST11 producing KPC-2 carbapenemase were identified.•Carbapenem-susceptible hypermucoviscous K. pneumoniae (CS-HMKP) were more susceptible to antimicrobials than CR-HMKP.•K1 and K2 were the main capsular serotypes of these HMKP strains.•Capsular serotype K57 was first reported for CR-HMKP strains of ST11.•Patients with CR-HMKP had higher mortality rates than those with CS-HMKP.
