Molecular phylogenetics of Neotropical detritivorous fishes of the family Curimatidae (Teleostei: Characiformes).

•First molecular phylogeny for Curimatidae.•Monophyly of Curimatidae and all genera except Curimatella and Cyphocharax.•Most previous morphological hypotheses are corroborated and incongruences are discussed.•Several well-supported subclades within Cyphocharax highlighted.•Steindachnerina corumbae is transferred to Cyphocharax.
