•Scrotal circumference (SC) showed the highest correlation with sperm morphology.•Testicular length (TL) showed the highest correlation with sperm motility.•Testicular biometry, except shape, was useful to predict selection of a bull in BSE.•TL and SC were useful to predict selection of a bull at 18–21 months of age.•Results of TL may be related to a better testicular thermoregulation.
