Percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale in patients with cryptogenic stroke - An updated comprehensive meta-analysis.

•This article highlights the importance of percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale (PFO) in patients with cryptogenic stroke versus only medical therapy.•Transcatheter closure of PFO plus medical therapy is superior to medical therapy alone for the prevention of recurrent cryptogenic stroke.•However, there is no difference in the rate of transient ischemic attack or all-cause mortality between PFO closure and medical therapy alone groups.
