Development of chitosan nanocapsules for the controlled release of hexaconazole.

•Hexaconazole containing Chitosan TPP nanocapsules prepared by ionotropic gelation and optimised by CCD software.•Characterization of prepared nanoformulation using PCS, TEM, FTIR and GC.•Controlled release studies performed in different buffers and soil showed slowest release in alkaline medium.•Fungicidal activity evaluated against R. solani.•Cytotoxicity evaluation of the prepared nanoformulation by MTT cell based assay.
