•Around 68,500 occupational cancers will occur among Australians exposed in 2012.•This represents 1.4% of future cancers in this cohort.•Lung cancers will comprise the highest number of future cancers (n=26,000).•Asbestos will contribute the largest number of cancer registrations (n=13,500).
