Synthesis and properties of castor oil-based waterborne polyurethane/sodium alginate composites with tunable properties.

•Castor oil-based waterborne polyurethane/sodium alginate composites were prepared.•The effect of sodium alginate content on the properties of the polymers was studied.•The formation of interpenetrating networks leads to the properties improvement.•Increasing sodium alginate content improves thermal stability of the composite films.
