摘要
In view of the growth of Wireless LAN and cyber security threats, the status of changes in this area becomes essential. Earliest known WarDriving study in Auckland Central Business District was carried out in 2003. Similar trials were undertaken in 2015 to study changes, in WLAN adoption and awareness. According to the studies, numbers of wireless access points have increased significantly from 236 to 4077. Currently only 0.32% use Ad-hoc mode a less secure mode, while in 2003 it was 10.17%. Currently 100% have encryption enabled compared to 40% earlier, however, 27.10% still use WEP encryption which is easily compromised. Currently, 5.94% use WPA and 66.96% use WPA2 a better encryption protocol. In regard to non-broadcast of SSID, it was 3.39% in 2003 and nearly 15% in 2015. The study concludes that wireless adoption and users' awareness of security has increased, however, there is still some scope for improvement.
