Electrocatalytic reduction of chloroform at nanostructured silver electrodes

•Ag-NWs was formed by electrodeposition of Ag in AAO template with cylindrical pores.•Ag-NHSs was formed by electrodeposition of Ag in AAO template with conical pores.•CHCl3 can be electrocatalytic reduced on Ag-NW and Ag-NHS array electrodes.•Ag-NW and Ag-NHS array electrodes possess very good electrocatalytic activity.•The electrocatalytic activity of Ag-NWs and Ag-NHS was compared with Ag bulk electrode.
