An approach to estimating flame radiation in combustion chambers containing suspended-particles

•Wall emission and wall reflection both interfere with flame radiation measurements.•Effects of walls on flame radiation measurements are studied by a theoretical model.•A convenient approach is proposed to estimate flame radiation in combustion chambers.•The approach can be applied to both optically thin and optically dense systems.•CFD simulations are performed to demonstrate the accuracy of the estimation approach.
