Impact of a risk-based follow-up in patients affected by gastrointestinal stromal tumour

•After radical surgery follow-up in GIST improves both post-recurrence progression-free and disease-specific overall survival.•In low-risk GIST, follow-up remains a controversial effort.•These data are the first to provide evidences supporting effort and cost of regular follow-up in GIST after radical surgery.
