Inventory control policy for a periodic review system with expediting

•The inventory control problem of an inventory system with expediting is studied.•We propose (S, e) policy that allows to expedite a part of order whenever needed.•An effective simulation optimization approach is designed to find the best (S, e).•(S, e) policy outperforms similar policies and is applicable to various areas.
