Luminescent Properties and Energy Transfer of Ca1.94Zn0.43Al1.25Si1.38O7:Ce3+, Eu2+ Phosphor

Ce3+ and Eu2+ codoped color-tunable Ca1.94Zn0.43Al1.25Si1.38O7 phosphors have been synthesized by high temperature solid state reaction. Upon 330 nm excitation, the emission spectra of the obtained phosphors show a blue broad band at 400 nm and a green band at 510 nm, originating from the allowed 5d -> 4f transition of the Ce3+ ion and Eu2+ ion, respectively. Energy transfer from the Ce3+ to Eu2+ ions was demonstrated by the luminescence spectra and decay curves of the phosphors. The results indicate that the Ca1.94Zn0.43Al1.25Si1.38O7: Ce3+, Eu2+ phosphor can be a promising candidate for a color-tunable phosphor used for white light emitting diodes.
