Effects of laser remelting on microstructures and immersion corrosion performance of arc sprayed Al coating in 3.5% NaCl solution

•The holes of the arc sprayed Al coatings are eliminated after laser remelting.•The corrosion mechanism of arc sprayed Al coating by laser remelting is uniform corrosion and pitting corrosion.•The polarization curves represents the positive shift after laser remelting.
