摘要
Previous studies on calcific aortic stenosis (AS) showed that for similar hemodynamic severity of AS, women had significantly lower valvular calcification load than men while having more valvular fibrosis. Therefore, this suggests that the AS pathophysiology might differ between women and men. However, animal models are lacking to evaluate the underlying pathophysiological processes involved in sex differences in AS. In this study, we hypothesized that sex hormones are involved in the development of AS in mouse with a promotion of AS initiation by testosterone and a protection against AS initiation by estrogens.
