•Harmonia axyridis abundance was negatively associated with Aphis glycines abundance.•Aphids did not vary with abundance of Coccinella septempunctata or Orius insidiosus.•High levels of alate immigration did not disrupt aphid suppression by predators.•Generalist predators provided effective season-long aphid suppression in soybean.
