Beyond Confidentiality: A Qualitative Study of Parent Preferences for Partnering with Their Adolescent's Primary Care Provider

Purpose: At its core, a patient-centered care approach for youth includes not only bringing the perspective of adolescents but also that of parents into the delivery of care. In the context of behavior change, assessment and consideration of both positions is even more significant as parents can play a critical role in supporting teens to make healthy choices. However, few studies have investigated the perspective of parents in this context. This study explored parent opinions on how providers and parents can best collaborate to motivate and support youth to make healthy choices.
