Novel application of virtual reality in patient engagement for Deep Brain Stimulation: A Pilot study

•Three-dimensional, 360-degree virtual reality is a novel patient engagement tool.•Radiological scans can be used effectively to create a real patient virtual model.•Patients responded positively to a Deep Brain Stimulation virtual reconstruction.•Patients reported an increased level of understanding, comfort, and satisfaction.•VR technology is applicable and valuable to functional neurosurgery patients.
