National Trends in Heart Donor Utilization Rates: What is in the Numbers?

In 2016, for the first time in 3 decades, >3000 patients received a heart transplant in the United States. Higher waitlist mortality and a growing national waitlist have expanded the criteria to accept high-risk donors for transplant. Additionally, awareness regarding transplantation is growing resulting in increased donor offers.
