摘要
Asymptomatic bone metastases are common in patients with solid tumors and are often the precursors of severe pain and other skeletal-related events (SREs), including pathological fractures and spinal cord compression. External beam radiotherapy (EBRT) is a first-line treatment for bone metastases after such complications have occurred. The success of EBRT in this setting suggests the possibility that radiotherapy targeting asymptomatic metastases may delay the onset of an SRE. A review of the literature, however, reveals no prior studies that have directly tested this hypothesis.
