The impact of climate change on the wave climate in the Gulf of St. Lawrence

•Ocean waves in the Gulf of St. Lawrence are simulated with WAVEWATCHIII wave model.•Winds to drive the wave model are obtained by downscaling IPCC climate scenario.•Climate change will tend to alter storms and reduce winds that drive the wave model.•Climate change will reduce sea ice in winter months in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.•By mid-century, wave climate will increase in winter and decrease in summer.
