Increased Indexed Left Ventricular Mass and Left Atrial Volumes are Associated with Cardiogenic Syncope

Background: Despite the questionable diagnostic yield of transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) in the evaluation of syncope, TTE continues to be used in the work-up of patients with such presentations. The aim of our study was to examine a range of echocardiographic parameters to determine if alterations in cardiac chamber size or function are associated with cardiogenic versus non–cardiogenic causes of syncope.
