Butyrate does not affect mast cell-induced hyperpermeability in human colonic mucosa
Clinical Nutrition(2018)
Abstract
Rationale: Butyrate has previously been shown to strengthen the intestinal barrier function in cell culture experiments and animal models and it has therefore been suggested to serve as a novel approach in the prevention or treatment of diseases that are associated with an impaired intestinal barrier. This study investigated whether butyrate could prevent mast cell-induced hyperpermeability in human colonic biopsies in an ex vivo setting.
